The benefits of Reiki

Many people report benefits from Reiki treatment. Most commonly, the benefits reported from Reiki include:

  • Relaxation and reduced stress

  • Improved sleep

  • Improved self-esteem

  • Accelerated recovery from illness or surgery

  • Improved mental calm and well being

Regardless of the challenges life gives you, Reiki will help you face them with greater calm and dignity.

Reiki does not replace primary healthcare but is complementary to it.

What should you expect during a Reiki session?

Each session of Reiki lasts between 45 minutes and 60 minutes.

We will do our best to ensure you are comfortable and relaxed.

You will lie down on the treatment table and close your eyes.

The practitioner will hold their hands above your body, changing position every three to ten minutes depending on what the practitioner detects in your body.

People report different sensations during Reiki treatment like a tingling where the practitioner’s hands are, heat radiating from the practitioner’s hands, or even as if waves of energy are flowing through them.

We encourage you to relax and be aware of the sensations. If you feel any discomfort, let your practitioner know.

What is Reiki?

There is a lot of information and misconceptions of Reiki.

To better understand Reiki, let’s start with what Reiki is not:

  • Reiki is not a massage. It is a treatment.

  • Reiki is not a religion but is a spiritual experience, much like Tai Chi, meditation or Yoga.

You will receive your Reiki treatment while fully clothed. You will either be seated comfortably or, more likely, be lying on a treatment table.

The Reiki practitioner does not need to touch your body for the treatment to be effective but may do so with your permission.

The "Ki" in Reiki is the Japanese term for life energy and is referred to as "Chi" or, more accurately, "Qi" in Chinese. It is present in the teachings for Martials arts, while in Yoga it is referred to as “Prana”. All the terms translate to the life energy that surrounds us all and flows through the energy channels in your body called meridians.

Master Mikao Usui, the father of Reiki, coined the term over a hundred years ago.

A Reiki practitioner will increase the flow of energy through your meridians, helping to remove blockages and aiming to create an inner balance.

The balanced your body and mind, the better able the body is to heal and the mind to make decisions.

It is thus often referred to as “energy healing”, yet the practitioner is not treating your complaint or symptoms (e.g. pain or depression). Instead, the practitioner is treating your inner energy balance. When you are in balance, you are better able to self heal.
